The media and other guests were treated to a special sneak peak last Thursday.

The idea of this previewing was to show the casino floor before the Gauteng Gambling Board’s inspection on Monday.

Guests were treated to a five course meal.

Group executive chef Ronald Ramsamy gave a tour of the kitchen with its technically advanced equipment.

Ramsamy said the main kitchen will be operational for 24 hours a day and feed the 14 other kitchens above it three times a day.

The casino is decked out with 2 000 slot machines and 60 tables.

Lights are a feast for the eyes and sounds are loud, but appealing.

The four sections of the casino will soon be filled with eager people wanting to hit the jackpot.

This massive R4 billion project sets the benchmark for more casinos in the future.

Here are some interesting facts about Time Square:

– It took 50 000 truckloads to remove the 482 650m³ of excavated soil. This is the equivalent to the volume of 193 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

– The massive casino roof spans 85m at its widest point and covers over 10 000m².

– An average of 300m³ of concrete was cast every day, with a truckload every 12 minutes.

– In July 2016 a South African record was set for the longest continuous pour of concrete: 1.550m³ over a period of 18 hours poured from 260 cement truckloads.

– Once the wet works are complete, the complex will have used a total volume of 106 983m³ of concrete, enough to cover about 125 percent of the surface of the Kimberley big hole to a depth of 0.5m.

– Laid out top-to-toe, the 7.5 million bricks used in construction would cover more than the distance between Johannesburg and Cape Town.

– When complete, the complex will also include 7 678m² of carpeting and 6 270m² of tiling; and18 062m² of glass facades will be used, the equivalent of more than two rugby fields.

The casino floor also boasts some firsts.

Time Square slots manager Bianco Marini has 25 years experience in the gaming industry.

On the recent tour he said the casino has some products never before seen in South Africa.

The double screen Game of Thrones slot will have gaming enthusiasts excited.

The casino floor spans over 7 530m² on two levels and makes way for the time themed, futuristically-designed casino with its 988 digital screens that will be used to generate evolving mind and mood experiences.

The roulette tables are just as special.

Tables manager Kevin Caswell said slot machines have evolved so much throughout the years, but gaming tables have stayed more or less the same.

This however, needed to change.

Caswell demonstrated a brand new roulette table that is one of a kind.

It is made out of marble and lights up depending on the spinning of the ball.

The casino is set to open its doors in April, following an 8 000 seater arena in September and a hotel complex in March next year.
