The annual inter-high A-league gala took place at the Hillcrest swimming pool last week Tuesday.

The finals were contested by 12 Pretoria schools and Hoërskool Menlo Park topped Southdowns college and Cornhall Hill college by over 200 points to be crowned the 2017 league champion.

Southdowns college learners Christin Mundell and Ethan Riekert were named senior victor ludorum and junior victor ludorum of the day respectively.

Southdowns college head of marketing Karlien Steyn said she was proud of Mundell and Riekert’s performances.

Hatfield Christian school finished 9th in the overall list, which relegated the school to the B-league for next season.

The school achieved third place in last year’s gala.

One of the swimmers, Erik Oosthuizen, a learner at Midstream college, said it was challenging to swim in rainy conditions but enjoyed the event regardless.
Hoërskool Garsfontein was promoted to the A-league and will compete with the likes of Menlo Park and Southdowns next year.
