Southdowns College High School held its annual Summer Sports awards last Tuesday.
The school’s head of marketing, Karlein Steyn said the pupils who excelled in swimming, athletics and cricket were honoured during the special evening at which co-founder and head coach of Fight Fit Militia in Johannesburg, Richard Quan, was guest speaker.
The star of the night was Christen Mundell, who won best senior girls swimmer of the year. Christen recently participated at two national championships in Durban and swam four qualifying times for the Junior World Championships.
Earlier this year she competed in the Confederation Africaine de Natation Amateur (Cana) event and won gold in the 800m freestyle, 50/100/200m breaststroke and 200m individual medley and silver in the 400m freestyle.
She also received gold in the 200m medley relay, silver for the 200m freestyle relay and bronze in the 400m medley relay.
Mundell is now waiting to hear if she has made the Cana team to US later this year.
