Mamelodi blind couple’s children finally registered online
Officials from the department of Education finally helped the blind couple to register their children online.
The children of a blind Mamelodi couple are now registered at school for next year, much to their parents’ relief.
Education department officials visited Kgaugelo Madua and Margaret Monageng of Mamelodi West to help register their two children on the Gauteng online learner registration system before the closing date.

The parents are relieved that Thabo Monageng (13) and Phenyo Monageng (6) are now registered for next year.
Thabo will start grade 8 at Mamelodi Secondary, while Phenyo is geared for grade 1 at Bohlabatsatsi primary.
The blind couple had been trying to register their children since admissions opened with no luck.
Relying on the department’s help centres because they did not have internet access at home, they found the queues unmanageable and could not get assistance.
Monageng said the department should have considered disabled people who could not travel long distances.
“The help centres are too far. They should have been set up at local community halls and not only at one venue,” they said.

Education spokesperson Oupa Bodibe said parents experiencing problems should furnish the department with their details on the toll free telephone number 0800-000-789.
