Explosives found in north of Pretoria

The motive behind the dumping of the explosives is unknown.

Explosives hidden under water along Soutpan Road have been recovered by Pretoria North police.

Police could not confirm the exact location of the body of water where the explosives were found, but it was confirmed they were recovered.

The divers recovered 206kg of Explogel v8 and v10.

According to Sasol, the manufacturer of the explosives, v8 is a high energy product designed for development or tunnelling.

The v10 is marketed as a high energy product particularly suited to deeper hole applications in shaft sinking, surface and quarry mining.

Sasol said the product was ideal for use in cold conditions.

Police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele said the motive behind the dumping of the explosives remained unknown but investigations were ongoing.

The explosives have been handed over to the Pretoria bomb disposal unit for further investigation.
