Tshwane Central police keep fit
Officers took part in a 1.6km walk against time, pacer running tests, one minute push-ups and one minute sit-ups.
A fitness session was held in Hatfield for Tshwane Central Cluster police officers on Wednesday morning.
Brooklyn, Garsfontein, Lyttelton, Silverton, Sunnyside, Pretoria Moot and Villieria police took part in various activities.
Brooklyn police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said the fitness assessment was institutionalised by cluster commander Major-General Yvonne Botsheleng.
“Physical fitness is one of the priorities in the annual Operational Plan of the Gauteng province for 2017/2018,” said Weilbach.
“Officers took part in a 1.6km walk against time, pacer running tests, one minute push-ups and one minute sit-ups in which certain targets had to be reached to meet the required standards.”

Weilbach said the senior management within the cluster was leading by example when it came to fitness and fighting crime.
Botsheleng said it was important for all police officers to sustain a good fitness level in order for them to fight crime swiftly and effectively.
“This (session) will also improve alertness and readiness that will enhance the community’s confidence in the SAPS,”said Botsheleng.
The cluster gym was officially opened in February.
Weilbach said weekly aerobic and yoga classes were held at the gym on Wednesdays.
“Major-General Botsheleng is leading by often joining in with these classes.”
Officers also received fruit and water during the exercise session.

Old Mutual rewarded the best performers in the different categories with gift vouchers.
Health screenings and tuberculosis (TB) awareness were also done on the day.
Weilbach said the gym was still in need of weights and gym equipment to make it a functional gym.
“Community members or gyms that want to get rid of old equipment are welcome to contact Warrant-Officer Peter Chabedi on 083-723-7526.”
