Pta police push back against crime

“Our weekend crime prevention operations were conducted in Brooklyn, Garsfontein, Lyttelton, Sunnyside, Villieria, Pretoria Moot and Silverton policing areas.”

The Tshwane Central SAPS cluster arrested 41 people during an anti-crime and clean-up operation at the weekend.

Spokesperson, Captain Anton Breedt said the operation was a joint effort between the Brooklyn, Garsfontein, Lyttelton, Sunnyside, Villieria, Pretoria Moot and Silverton police.

He said the focus was contact- and property-related crimes and drug and traffic offences.

“In Silverton, Sunnyside and Brooklyn 18 people were arrested for drug-related crimes,” he said.

“The other arrests were for driving under the influence (two), possession of stolen property (six), common theft (10), fraud (one), assault with the intention of inflicting grievous bodily harm (two), possession of suspected stolen property (six), malicious damage to property (one) and shoplifting (one).”

Breedt said the arrested would appear in the Hatfield Community and Pretoria Magistrate’s courts.

“Communities are once again urged to report suspicious activities, persons or vehicles in their residential areas by phoning our emergency number,” he said.

Information with regard to crime or suspected drug activity can be given to the police anonymously by phoning 086-001-0111 or sending an SMS to 32211.

“Assist the police fight fraud, corruption, unethical behaviour or any other suspicious activity that could be detrimental to our success,” Breedt said.

“Join your local CPF or neighbourhood watch. If we stand together as a community, we can push back against crime.”
