A 37-year-old Hammanskraal woman convicted of her husband’s murder has been sentenced to 10 years in jail.
Fikile Mongwe (37) was sentenced in the Moretele high court, in Hammanskraal, on Wednesday where she appeared with accomplice, Innocent Pilosa (21).
Pilosa was sentenced to 20 years in jail for murder and Mongwe jailed for 10 years for being an accessory to the murder.
Police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi said the two were arrested in January for the crime committed on 30 December last year.
“Pilosa was arrested shortly after confessing to police that he had assisted Mongwe kill her husband, Sherli Selaelo Lekalakala (61),” said Moremi.

Pilosa led the police to a shallow grave in the bush in Bosplaas where the man was buried. When Mongwe found out she was wanted, she had gone on the run before being later arrested.
“Pilosa pleaded guilty to murder while Mongwe kept quiet during the trial,” said Moremi.
Witnesses testified that the murder was planned so that both accused would take over the deceased’s house.
Moremi said Lekalakala’s family was unhappy with the sentences as it had expected life imprisonment for both his killers.
