UPDATE: Manhunt for Centurion jewellery store robbers

“One of the suspects was allegedly seen entering the NWJ jewellery store pretending to be a customer.”

Police are looking for five men who robbed a jewellery store in Forest Hill City shopping mall in Centurion on Tuesday.

“One of the suspects was allegedly seen entering the NWJ jewellery store pretending to be a customer,” said police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto.

“A few seconds later, he took out a firearm and threatened the staff while four other suspects entered the store.”

Moloto said the five robbers took jewellery from the display cabinet and the safe before running away.

“No shots were fired and no one was hurt during the robbery.”

He said the police appealed to anyone with information that could lead to an arrest to contact their local police station or to SMS “tip-off” to the crime line number on 32211.

Moloto said a business robbery docket had been opened at the Olievenhoutbosch police station.

Forest Hill City general manager Lionel van Lis said the robbers escaped in a silver Mitsubishi SUV and a black VW Jetta.

“Due to the ongoing investigation, we are unable to provide further details,” said Van Lis.

“However, we are confident this incident was handled with the utmost professionalism by the Forest Hill City security team.”
