A 30-year-old man was arrested in Soshanguve for the possession of firearm belonging to a police officer.
Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka said the man was arrested in Block H on Friday morning after he attempted to rob a teenage boy.
“He was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm with filed-off serial numbers,” said Maluleka.
“It was later discovered the firearm was a service pistol stolen from a sergeant based at SAPS head office in Pretoria.
The sergeant was hijacked by three armed men earlier this month. His VW Polo TSI, wallet, cellphone, appointment certificate and the firearm with 15 live rounds of ammunition were taken. He was forced onto the back seat of his car as the hijackers drove around. They later dropped him off in a veld in Tswaing.”
