The Tshwane North district held an imbizo for school governing bodies (SGB) recently at the Suurman community hall in Hammanskraal to encourage grade 12 learners.
The event offered motivation and inspiration to grade 12 learners in Soshanguve and Hammanskraal and included an awards ceremony for performing learners.
“We wanted to offer advice to the young people before the start of their final exams,” said district director Shirley Moloi.
Moloi said practical advice on how to cope during exams and how to prepare for exams was given to learners and teachers.
“The department wants them to strive for excellence in preparation for the upcoming final national senior certificate exams.”
The imbizo was attended by parents, business people, members of the SGB, principals, and members of the representative council of learners.
Moloi urged SGB members and all parents to try their best to sustain their good grade 12 pass rate targets for 2017.
“Struggles and courage are not always measured in victories and medals that we achieve, but with the struggles we overcome,” she said.
Moloi said the best three academically performing learners, based on the June exams, from each school, were awarded gifts and certificates.
“This will motivate them to excel in the exam, be it prelims or final exams,” she said.
A total of 82 learners were awarded for their hard work.
“A special award was also conferred on two top learners for overall performance from Hammanskraal and Soshanguve.”
Moloi appealed to parents to motivate and inspire the grade 12 learners to do well in the upcoming preliminary examinations.
The event was sponsored by Macmillan SA, TOSHIBA and Nashua Kopano.
