The highly anticipated grand opening of the Sun Arena at Times Square is right around the corner.
Rekord reported earlier that the Sun Arena was to open in Pretoria in November with a spectacular “local is lekker” concert – The Unison Celebration.

The only venue of its kind in Pretoria, the state-of-the-art Sun Arena provides an unprecedented platform for staging grand scale international and local acts.
Here are a few facts about the upcoming Sun Arena that you may not know:

– It has overall interior dimensions of 83.7m in length (stage wall to rear of upper-level seating) and 93.4m in width (left to right of upper-level seating), with 26m in height (arena floor to underside of the roof at an apex of domed roof).

– It has a lower arena mixed use floor area of 3405m2 in length and 58.3m in width, with a clear height of 16.5m to arena sub-grid, and a clear height of 14m to stage sub-grid.
– It has weight loading capacities of 2 000kg (2 tons) per square metre at the lower arena level and 750kg (3/4) ton per square metre at the upper arena level.

– The steel skeleton or roof structure employs innovative compression technology and practices to achieve an unsupported span and clear view across the arena of 93.6m in diameter, with the steel structure total weight of 1 479 tons.
– There is an installation of a high definition, audio-visual system, comprising cameras, playback facilities, and large format LED screens.

– There is an installation and availability of a dedicated 1 250kva generator for exclusive event use, with about 10 000m of high voltage cabling as well as 96 000m of low voltage cabling.
