The high mast light which caused the tragic deaths of five Soshanguve children will be removed, the Tshwane metro said.
MMC for services and infrastructure Darryl Moss told Rekord on Thursday that the high mast light would be removed once all investigations have been completed.
The children were playing underneath the mast in Block X in Soshanguve when the light ring fell on them.

Dimpho Bopape (5), Boitshoko Bopape (11) and Lethabo Matibako (9), and Maikano Khoza (9) died at the scene.

“Community members have asked us to remove the light saying it would be a sad reminder of the tragedy for the families,” said Moss.
“Right now the SAPS and the Department of Labour are busy investigating. Once their investigation is complete, we will remove the light.”

The five children were laid to rest on Saturday 11 November.
Family, friends, politicians and locals came in their numbers to accompany them to their final resting places.
Several speakers also called on authorities to address infrastructure problems and to prevent such incidents.

The metro said a preliminary probe showed that cable theft was to blame.
