Motorists in Ashlea Gardens have to be extra cautious not to hit lamp posts left in the middle of the road after extensions.
Lamp posts along Dely, Club and Matroosberg roads in Ashlea Gardens, east of Pretoria have been planted in the middle of the road.
This follows roadworks that were completed in the area weeks ago.
Ward councillor Siobhan Muller said roads were being extended and the contractor seemed not to have included the removal of the poles in the plan.

“The poles were on the sidewalk but when the road was extended, the contractor never thought to remove them,” she said.
Muller reported the problem to the city and was told that they would be removed by Wednesday, 15 November.
“I reported the issue 6 weeks ago. I was told they would be removed [by] last week but they weren’t. They promised to have them removed yesterday, but because of the rainy weather they could not,” she said.

Rekord visited the area and witnessed how the poles prevented motorists from turning without having to maneouvre around them.
Muller said a promise to have the poles removed by Friday, 17 November, was made by the contractor and she would oversee the matter.
“The contractor was incompetent and should never be given a contract again,” Muller said.
