Closing down illegal alcohol outlets is part of the police’s plans for a safer festive season in the Gauteng province according to a recent statement.
Police will identify and close down illegal liquor outlets, subsequently seizing the alcohol and arresting illegal traders.
“It is believed that alcohol and illegal substance abuse contributes enormously to serious and violent crimes,” the statement said.

One such operation, which was held on 14 November, resulted in large amounts of liquor being confiscated from illegal shebeens. The operation was deemed a success by police.
More such operations would follow throughout the festive season, according to the statement.
