NOTICE: Water supply interruption expected in the North.

Residents were advised to store water during water interruption.

Residents of Ga-Rankuwa, north of Pretoria, have been warned of a scheduled water supply interruption on Wednesday.

The Tshwane metro said in a statement the interruption would affect residents of zones 5 and 6 from 08:00 to 15:00.

“The city has to shut down the water supply in order to do a tie-in connection in the outlet pipeline of the zone 6 east reservoir,” it said.

The connection was to upgrade bulk water pipelines in Ga-Rankuwa.

“The pipes in Ga-Rankuwa were predominantly old asbestos cement pipes and the water supply system design was not up to the required standard.”

The city said a project was underway to replace the worn-out water network with new pipes in order to address capacity constraints and maintenance.

“The project will bring stability to the existing water reticulation network which has deteriorated to an unserviceable level.”

Affected residents were advised to store water for household usage during the given period.
