The victim of a scam in Centurion is said to have received a threatening phone call.
Kabous Krige, a 47-year-old private construction worker, told Rekord the call was made by an apparent friend of the culprits.
“He told me I would get into serious trouble if I continued trying to get the money for my vehicles,” said Krige.
Krige claims to have been scammed out of two vehicles.
He said he responded to a social media advertisement by a Centurion couple because he wanted to buy himself another car.
He met the couple to trade in his double cab bakkie and motorbike for a deposit on a new vehicle.
“They told me that both would be sold for R60 000.”

Krige said the couple promised him he would have the new vehicle within five to 10 working days.
He claimed when he confronted the pair, they informed him the transaction had been cancelled.
“I’ve also discovered that both my vehicles had been registered in a new owner’s name.”
Calls to the number from where Krige was called yielded nothing.
The couple referred Rekord to their lawyer, Regardt Grobler, who said a settlement proposal had been sent to Krige.

The couple are also facing legal action, reported our sister publication the Middelburg Observer.
It reported that the couple allegedly scammed the wives of the two men jailed for putting a man in a coffin.
They allegedly conned the wives out of|
R24 000 for services that the wives apparently never received from the couple.
Lyttelton police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller confirmed that Krige’s theft complaint was being investigated.
