The Irene community in Centurion is mourning the senseless murder of one of its community members over the weekend, Cecil Du Toit.
Du Toit was known to be an avid mountain biker and was killed two days before his 51st birthday.
His body was discovered on Sunday behind the Irene Farm Village.

Centurions shared information of Du Toit’s disappearance on social media when he failed to return from a bicycle ride on Sunday morning.
A friend of Du Toit, Madré Mostert sent out the below post on Facebook:
“A dear friend of mine went cycling this morning at 09:00 near Swartkop golf estate! We are unable to locate him. Police will only assist tomorrow, we went to all hospitals in area. PLEASE WE ARE DESPERATE. His name is Cecil Du Toit. Any advice or help will be much appreciated.”
Police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller confirmed Du Toit’s body was found between the railway track and the water reservoir, with a gunshot wound.

At this stage, it is believed to be a robbery.
“All forensic evidence that has been gathered will be used to track down the culprits,” said Miller.
According to the SA police website www.saps.gov.za, there is no waiting period in reporting a missing person.
“It is essential to take steps and start the investigation into a missing person’s case immediately.”
