With the tide of hijacking incidents rising in the run-up to Christmas, drivers around the Tshwane North police cluster have been warned to be alert.
Spokesperson Captain Matthews Nkoadi said the few weeks leading to Christmas were always a problem around the townships north of Pretoria in terms of hijackings, house robberies and assault.
“The following areas have been noted as crime hot spots, hence we urge the community to avoid them at all cost, or use alternatives,” said Nkoadi.
– Loate, especially Mhlaumbe extension 3, for car hijackings, house robberies and assaults.
– Slovoville, Lebanon, Beirut, Odi cemetery and Mabopane stadium for car hijackings and business robberies.
– Mabopane, especially the area near the Gold Rush Morula resort, for thefts out of the motor vehicle.

– Itsoseng and Klipgat for burglary and theft of cables.
– Rietgat, blocks GG, HH, X, P, Y, PP for house robberies, burglaries and carjackings.
– Akasia, Wonder Park for theft out of vehicles
– Karen Park for common robberies
– KFC for armed robberies
– Carousel plaza and Jubilee mall for armed robberies
– Dube, around Makaunyane, for robberies.
– Eesterust, Bosplaas and Suurman for robberies and murders.
– Bringaville in Masakeng, zones 1, 2, 4, 16 and 15 Ga-Rankuwa for robberies and housebreaking.
“The bank robberies remain thorny at all malls in the community. Our members will, however, patrol all areas as a part of festive crime prevention operations,” he said.

He warned that although the police would take steps to combat hijackings and other incidents of crime, residents should also play their part and exercise caution all the time.
He said police have planned a series of patrols and intelligence-driven “disruptive crime prevention operations to derail criminals’ plans”.
He urged all communities to contact the crime stop number 08600 10111 to report any crime at all times.
