The Lyttelton police with security companies, CPF, PRASA and department of home affairs embarked on an early crime prevention sweep on Friday morning.
During the sweep, several suspects were taken into custody for possession of drugs, improper documentation as well as possession of weapons.
Crime hotspot areas identified by the police will form part of the sweep throughout the day.
Police spokesman Captain Dave Miller said crime prevention is an essential part of dealing with crime.
