The festive season is known to be notorious for criminal activities with evil-doers using clever tactics to rob innocent people of their belongings.
The police in Garsfontein have issued tips to residents to avoid being the next victim of vehicle-related crime.
Spokesperson Captain Ilze Jones said they were working hand in hand with shopping centres, CPFs, Garscom and local security companies to keep and make the community feel safe.
“An urgent appeal is made to you as the community at large to be security-conscious at all times.”
Jones said people should use the following tips to avoid being victims:
– To prevent smash and grabs do not leave valuable items in your vehicle.

– Also do not leave valuable items in your vehicle when parking at the shopping mall, at your home.
– Where possible, do not park your vehicle on the pavement, especially leaving it overnight although there is parking in the yard.
– Always lock your vehicle and activate the alarm system.
– Try and lock your gate at the main entrance at all times.
– When approaching your driveway, be vigilant and check your immediate surroundings for suspicious persons.
Jones said residents should know which number to contact in case of any criminal activity.
