
A joint festive season operation yielded a total of 71 arrests in the west of Pretoria in five days, police said on Monday.
Hercules police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said the operations were under the command of cluster detective Colonel Jacobeth Mabena and Major General Tommy Mthombeni.
The arrests were for crimes ranging from possession of dagga, possession of drugs and theft out of motor vehicles.

Msimango said searches were conducted in the Pretoria CBD to ensure that people were safe.
“Residents must feel safe while shopping and doing business in the CBD, furthermore, there will be police visibility to prevent muggings and business robberies,” he said.
“The cluster commander wishes all residents of Gauteng, tourists and visitors a safe festive season and said the police are committed to a zero-tolerance approach to ensure that all people and their properties are safe and feel safe.”
