Danville man nabbed for possession of unlicensed firearms

He was found with five firearms including two 303 rifles and live ammunition.

One person was arrested and five firearms and live ammunition were recovered in a anti-crime blitz in Danville on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said a 40-year-old man was arrested in Dinkelmann Street.

“Police received information about a man suspected of being in possession of [unlicensed] firearms,” he said.

“The man was found in possession of five firearms which included two 303 rifles and live ammunition. All were confiscated.”

Tshwane West police cluster commander Major General Tommy Mthombeni thanked his officers and the residents for working together.

Moloto said a case of possession of unlicensed firearms was open at Pretoria West SAPS for further police investigation.

“The suspect is expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court later this week.

The blitz was a joint effort between Tshwane West cluster crime intelligence, trio task team and tactical response team.
