Two men were wounded and arrested after a police chase and shootout in Pretoria West on Friday morning.
Police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said the incident happened around 04:45, at the corner of Es’kia Mphahlele Drive and Bloed Street.
“Pretoria West police on patrol received information about a burglary in progress at Musanda African Food (Pretoria West).
“A chase ensued and the suspects shot at the police who returned fire. The chase continued until at the corner of Es’kia Mphahlele Drive and Bloed Street where the suspects abandoned their car and fled on foot,” he said.

Msimango said the men were arrested while the third suspect fled on foot.
“The suspects were taken to hospital under police guard after sustaining bullet wounds during the shootout. Their car, a Mercedes Benz C230 2002 model, grey in colour, was seized together with stolen items recovered.”

A firearm belonging to the suspects was recovered at the scene, he said.
Msimango said the two were expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court after their discharge from hospital to face charges of business burglary and attempted murder.
