The Sunnyside police are working hard to arrest the spiralling rate of theft out of motor vehicles in the area.
Spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela said one of the most prevalent crimes in Sunnyside was theft out of the motor vehicle.
Mavimbela said there had been a slight decline last year, however, the crime volumes remain consistently high.
“This year we had at least three (people) being convicted of the same crime. One (a car guard) was handed three years, one 18 months and the other got away with a suspended sentence,” he said.

He said in the past two weeks four car guards had been arrested for either street robbery or theft out of a motor vehicle.
He said the policemen and women were working hard on the ground to ensure that residents were safe.
“There will be police operations on a daily basis to ensure that the festive season is safer, there will be high visibility of police while law and order are being maintained in our streets and shopping complexes,” he said.
Mavimbela said motorists should not leave valuables in their vehicles.
“Motorists must avoid driving around with valuables on the car seats, especially where they can be spotted by criminals.”
