A woman that reported a false crime at the Silverton police station is yet to be arrested.
The 35-year-old reported to the police on 14 December that the apartment she shared with her partner in Silverton, east of Pretoria, had been burgled and items stolen, according to police spokesperson Captain Jan Sepato.
But police claim the woman had actually sold the “stolen” items – including a home theatre system – to Cash Crusaders secondhand shop.
Allegedly the woman only notified her partner about the “break-in” when he returned from his work in the DRC.

It was said that the partner found out about the sale after he told friends about his bad luck only to be told his partner had been seen selling the home theatre system.
Sepato said the partner then informed the police about the allegation.
“Preliminary investigations found a contract of R1 851 between the shop and the woman,” Sepato said.
The woman has now been charged with purjury and was expected to hand herself in at the police station.
