
Two SAPS K9 officers are recovering in hospital following a cash-in-transit heist in Eersterust on Wednesday.
The officers were shot and injured when they were met with gunfire when they responded to a call in regard to the heist.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Sam Shibambo confirmed the two officers are in hospital and recovering.
The Fidelity truck was reportedly travelling towards the Pick n Pay centre on Hans Coverdale west when it was suddenly attacked by a group of heavily armed men, said Shibambo.

“The vehicle was allegedly blown open with explosives and the suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of money.”
The robbers fled the scene in a white Audi A3 and a white Hyundai I20.
The suspects’ vehicles were spotted by police in Derdepoort, where it is reported that the suspects shot at the police and the two officers suffered injuries.
No one was injured during the bombing of the cash-in-transit vehicle.
Investigations are ongoing.
