UPDATE: Fifth man arrested for missing North West women

A 33-year-old man was arrested on Friday in connection with the disappearance of two North West women.

A fifth man was arrested in connection with the two missing North West women, police said on Wednesday.

Anisha (30) and Joey van Niekerk (32) went missing on Sunday, 10 December when they left for a funeral in Pretoria but never arrived.

Four other suspects who were also arrested appeared at the Brits Magistrate court on Friday 22 December on charges of murder, rape, kidnapping, robbery and the unlawful possession of a firearm.

“The 33-year-old male who was arrested on Friday appeared before the Brits Magistrates court today for the same charges” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mpeile Talane.

The five accused will remain in custody and will appear in court on 5 January 2018.

Talane said all charges were based on information gathered in the police investigation thus far.

A burnt-out wreck of the vehicle in which the two women were travelling at the time of their disappearance was discovered by police next to a road in the Magaliesberg, Randfontein area on Saturday.

The two women themselves have however still not been found but police were following all leads, said Talane.
