The man found murdered in his home in Akasia near the Heatherdale cemetery has been identified.
The 56-year-old Sakkie Verster was shot dead in the early morning hours during an apparent house robbery, according to a family member.

Neighbour Chris Zietsman (79) said Verster’s death was a great shock.
“Early this morning I woke up to a loud crashing sound,” Zietsman told Rekord on Thursday.
“I got out of bed to investigate but saw nothing so I thought I must have dreamt it.”
Shortly afterwards, he heard some screaming that got him wide awake.
“Sakkie’s daughter and her friend were screaming for help outside.”
Zietsman helped the two girls over the tall wall between their homes.

“The girls were traumatised after the robbers had shot Sakkie in his bedroom and tied them up.
There were apparently three robbers inside the house. They grabbed the girls’ cell phones and after they fled the scene, the girls found scissors with which they freed themselves,” said Zietsman.
Zietsman called the police.
“I’m frightened after what happened,” said Zietsman. “No one is safe anymore.”
“Sakkie didn’t deserve this. I can’t imagine what those girls and his family must be going through.”
Police are investigating.
