New Year wishes from Centurion councillors
"The past year brought many challenges and sometimes it wasn’t easy to navigate the stormy waters"
Ward councillors in Centurion have reaffirmed their dedication to service delivery and their hopes for the New Year.
Councillor for ward 66 Ina Strijdom said the past year was a tough one.
“However, let us put our 2017 sorrows in a suitcase and use the good memories to build a wonderful 2018 instead.”
Strijdom said she wanted 2018 to be a year of good health, great career opportunities and wonderful family times for her community.
“The past year brought many challenges and sometimes it wasn’t easy to navigate the stormy waters”, she said.
“This year we must reach out to those less fortunate in different ways than simply stuffing food parcels in their hands. We need to find more viable solutions. This is a new year and we must find a new approach,” said Strijdom.
Ward 69 councillor Cindy Billson said 2018 held lots of promise.

Billson believes that the many young adults who had just finished their school careers can shape their own future.
“Our young adults must know that they have our support, even if it means just listening to them when they need someone to talk to.”
Billson said the past year taught her that her community’s youth wanted to be involved in their communities and churches.
“My wish for 2018 for each of you is that you will be the voice of positive change that will have a profound impact on our history,” said Billson.
Councillor for ward 57 David Farquharson wished his community a healthy and wealthy 2018.
Farquharson said wealth came in many forms. “This year could be a year of learning and tolerance.”
He said 2017 was a year of ups and downs. “However, the community has shown that it can withstand the challenges thrown at them.
“My ward had a year in which their faith and endurance were tested. Some of the challenges are still being dealt with, but we have proven that we can work together as a team.”

Farquharson urged residents to continue reporting problems and to get involved in ward committees.
“May you all have a great New Year.”
Councillor Peter Sutton of ward 78 wished the community a prosperous 2018.
“We don’t know what challenges we will face or what problems will arise in the new year, but I would like to assure the community that the councillors are here to work hard to provide the service delivery that they deserve.”
“Things are not as good as they could be, but we will work until we get it right. We need to put South Africa back on the economic growth path.”
Sutton said he would like to thank the Centurion community for their support.
“We, as the councillors, are looking forward to serving you another year.”
