Police conduct safety programme at Lynnwood school
“The first day of school is always chaotic, with parents running up and down. This can lead to some parents forgetting to lock their cars.”
Garsfontein police kicked off their school safety programme at Lynnwood Ridge Primary School on Wednesday morning.
With schools reopening on Wednesday, Garsfontein police spokesperson Captain Ilze Jones said it was important for police to make their presence felt.
“The first day of school is always chaotic, with parents running up and down. This can lead to some parents forgetting to lock their cars or leave valuable items inside the vehicle,” she said.
“We are not only on the lookout for criminals, but we are also here to hand out tips on how the community can avoid being victims of crime at this busy time,” she said.

Jones said a number of police officers had been deployed on Wednesday in various schools around the Garsfontein policing vicinity.
“What we are basically doing is to make the community more security conscious.”
Lynnwood Ridge Primary School principal Addie Lewis welcomed the police visit.
“It’s always heartwarming to see the little ones on their first day of school. What I like the most is that parents walk with them to class and make sure that they are well placed and comfortable,” said Addie.
