94% Bachelor Degree pass for Crawford College class of 2017
Crawford College class of 2017 has achieved a 94% bachelor degree pass rate, with its top five learners each obtaining eight IEB distinctions in their respective subjects.
Catherine Brink got distinctions in English, Afrikaans, mathematics, accounting, physical science, life science, design and life orientation.
One of her high school achievements was receiving honours for full senior colours in academics, English and art.
She will be studying towards a biotechnology degree at University of Pretoria.
“I am fascinated by the field of biology and have been for as long as I can remember. It is always my favourite subject to study, so I wanted to choose a course that I could be passionate about. I also love discovering new things and answering questions, so a career that focuses heavily on research was very important to me. I may also venture into teaching or lecturing once my studies are completed.”
Her motto is: “As long as you are standing, give a hand to those who have fallen.”

Shanay Gungudoo, who was also in the top five, obtained eight distinctions in English, Afrikaans, mathematics, advanced programme mathematics, accounting, life science, physical science and life orientation.
He will be studying actuarial science at Tuks. When asked why actuarial science, he said it appealed to his interest in furthering his studies in mathematics.
Along with her eight distinctions in English, Afrikaans, mathematics, accounting, economics, physical science, engineering graphics and design, and life orientation, Annette Hendriksz’s other achievements include public speaking, Olympiad achievements, honours awards and community service endeavours.
She has enrolled for a BSc actuarial science and financial mathematics at Tuks.
“I love solving problems in a mathematical sphere and the fact that this degree also encompasses economics made it the perfect choice for me.”

Top five achiever Husna Moosa received eight distinctions in English, Afrikaans, mathematics, advanced programme mathematics, life science, physical science, information technology and life orientation.
Her other achievement includes winning the SACEE creative writing competition. She will be studying towards an electronic engineering degree at the Tuks.
Mayuri Ramnarain got distinctions in English, Afrikaans, mathematics, accounting, life science, physical science, engineering graphics and design, and life orientation.
She is also going to study at Tuks and her course of choice is medicine because of her love of public service.
Ramnarain draws her inspiration from her parents. “They hail from humble backgrounds. Their perseverance ensured that I received the best education.”
Jiashi Li obtained seven distinctions in English, French, mathematics, business studies, design, engineering graphics and design, and life orientation.
She will be studying in the United Kingdom for a qualification in graphic design. Her motto is “work hard play hard”.

Neeraj Pema obtained seven distinctions in English, Afrikaans, mathematics, accounting, life science, history and life orientation.
His high school achievements include public speaking from grade 10 to 12, he was placed second place in South Africa for National Science Olympiad in 2013 and had been awarded full academic colours since grade 8.
BSc actuarial science is his course of choice and he is also headed to Tuks.
Angelique Rodrigues also boasts seven distinctions in English, Afrikaans, accounting, economics, business studies, dramatic arts and life orientation.
She will be studying B Comm law at Stellenbosch University. “I am passionate about the legal field and the business field.”
She is inspired by her parents and her sister and believes they are the reason why she aspires to achieve greatness. “Their love and support are all I need,” she said.
Kerys Trathen obtained seven distinctions in English, Afrikaans, mathematics, accounting, life science, music and life orientation.
She was awarded full colours for music, academics and she was number one in girls’ tennis.
Sifiso Mkhize obtained six distinctions in Afrikaans, mathematics, accounting, economics, engineering graphics and design, and life orientation.
He will be studying towards a B Comm (CA stream) degree at the University of Cape Town.
Mkhize enjoys playing soccer. “I am inspired by Lionel Messi, he never ceases to thrill me with his skills.”
