Pta Girls High excels
"They did exceptionally well, scoring 409 distinctions in all."
The Pretoria Girls High class of 2017 did exceptionally well, according to school spokesperson Kerry Du Toit.
“They obtained 409 distinctions in all,” Du Toit said, adding top achiever Simona Coetzee had almost scored a 100 percent for accounting.
“She scored 99 percent.”
Coetzee’s subjects were Afrikaans for which she scored 89 percent; computer applications technology 94 percent; English 84 percent; history 91 percent; life orientation 92 percent and maths 98 percent.
Coetzee said she wanted to become an actuary scientist.
Larissa Liebenberg got a cool 96 percent for Afrikaans; English 84 percent; French 90 percent; life orientation 93 percent; life sciences 95 percent; mathematics 93 percent; and physical science 95 percent.

Yedam Kim got 89 percent for Afrikaans; English 86 percent; French 85 percent; history 98 percent; life orientation 94 percent; mathematics 92 percent; and physical science 93 percent.
Stacey Leigh Sapsford worked really hard for her 93 percent for Afrikaans; English 93 percent; French 90 percent; life orientation 88 percent; life sciences 88 percent; mathematics 90 percent; and physical sciences 93 percent.
Stacey wants to become a doctor.
Gabriella Birkholtz obtained 94 percent for accounting; Afrikaans 86 percent; English 83 percent; French 82 percent; life orientation 92 percent; mathematics 89 percent; and physical science 93 percent.
She wants to study industrial engineering.
Eyerusalem Abayneh Ataro got a cool 97 percent for accounting; Afrikaans 79 percent; English 80 percent; history 93 percent; life orientation 87 percent; mathematics 89 percent; and physical science 92 percent.
Pascale Mestdagh scored 90 percent for Afrikaans; English 88 percent; French 89 percent; life orientation 94 percent; mathematics 85 percent; physical science 85 percent; and visual arts 85 percent.

Mestdagh received academic awards in Grade 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 and full academic colours for Grades 11 and 12.
“She received gold certificates from Grade 8 to 12, and took AP maths as an extra subject for which she obtained a distinction,” said Du Toit.
Mestdagh said matric was challenging because she spent most of the year writing exams and working on portfolios for her university entrance.
Mestdagh said she intends studying architecture at the University of Pretoria.
Mestdagh said she believed the secret to success was a well-balanced life that allowed for time for work and relaxation.
Her role model was musician Björk, she said.
“I love her because she creates music that inspires many.”
Alexia Daniel scored 86 percent for accounting; Afrikaans 88 percent; English 85 percent; geography 90 percent; life orientation 91 percent; mathematics 82 percent; and physical science 89 percent.
Sascha Kacnik scored 91 for Afrikaans; English 73 percent; German 78 percent; life orientation 84 percent; life sciences 94 percent; mathematics 92 percent; and physical sciences 96 percent.
Amy Finlayson cooped a cool 86 percent for Afrikaans; English 87 percent; history 93 percent; life orientation 90 percent; mathematics 81 percent; physical science 79 percent; and visual arts 83 percent.
