Three suspects nabbed for alleged cable theft in Pretoria North

Alert community members and CPF patrollers worked together to stop an alleged cable theft attempt in Wolmer, leading to the arrest of three suspects.

The Pretoria North CPF Sector 1 has credited vigilant residents and dedicated patrollers for the successful arrest of three suspects allegedly involved in a cable theft incident in Wolmer.

The incident occurred on August 3 at approximately 12:50 when community members noticed suspicious activity and immediately alerted CPF patrollers.

Acting on the tip-off, patrollers responded swiftly and began monitoring the suspects while maintaining a safe distance.

According to the CPF, the suspects were kept under observation as patrollers gathered information and co-ordinated a response.

Pretoria North CPF spokesperson Lebo Moloi said during the surveillance, one of the suspects allegedly climbed a tree and started cutting an overhead cable with a bolt cutter.

“Recognising that a crime was in progress, the CPF control room was informed, and assistance was requested from the TMPD Anti-Cable Theft Unit,” she said.

The suspects were subsequently detained by CPF patrollers and handed over to TMPD officers for further processing.

Moloi said a bolt cutter and sections of the cut cable were recovered at the scene and are expected to form part of the evidence in the case.

Moloi said the successful operation demonstrated the value of co-operation between residents, volunteers, and law enforcement agencies.

“This successful operation highlights the importance of co-operation between residents, CPF volunteers and law enforcement agencies.

“It also serves as a reminder that criminals find it increasingly difficult to operate in communities where residents remain vigilant and report suspicious behaviour without delay,” said Moloi.

Moloi commended the residents who reported the suspicious activity, as well as the Sector 1 patrollers and TMPD officers who responded to the incident.

The CPF has urged residents to continue reporting suspicious behaviour as quickly as possible, stressing that timely information can help prevent crime before significant damage occurs.

The forum believes that strong partnerships between communities and law enforcement remain one of the most effective tools in protecting neighbourhoods and safeguarding critical infrastructure.
