Hoërskool Gerrit Maritz congratulated its top class of 2017 achievers.
Best performer Fiona Maja, with a pass average of 86,3 percent and six distinctions, was praised.
Her subjects included: English home language (83 percent), Afrikaans (85), life orientation (94), Mathematics (86), physical sciences (89), life science (94) and engineering graphics and design (73).
Maja plans to study civil engineering at the University of Pretoria.
“I want to see myself involved in projects all over South Africa, which will improve the quality of people’s lives and have an impact on the economy.”
Her hobbies include drawing and painting, and enjoys reading books, anything related to science, engineering and motoring.

The second highest achiever was Antonia Dambuza with an average of 77 percent and three distinctions.
Her subjects included: English home language (73), Afrikaans (83), life orientation (96), mathematics (62), geography (77), physical sciences (73) and life sciences (75).
She plans on studying medicine and wants to be an ophthalmologist or a trauma surgeon.
Dambuza likes reading, cooking, cloud watching and spending time with her family.
