NEWSFLASH: Dorandia man found dead inside his home

Residents called the police after noting a foul smell from the house.

A man was discovered dead at his home in Dorandia, police confirmed on Tuesday.

After noting a foul smell from a home in Earl Street, residents in the area called Pretoria North police to investigate.

Local resident Tebogo Mahlokweng said she grew increasingly concerned about her neighbour residing at the house where the smell originated from.

“I have not seen my neighbour in days,” Mahlokweng told Rekord on Monday.

“His car is still here, but no-one has seen him leaving his house.”

Mahlokweng said she called the police two days earlier to investigate.

“Police searched around the house and peeked through the windows, but all the doors were locked and they could not break in before obtaining a court order – or so they told me.”

On Monday afternoon, police returned to the house where they discovered the man’s body.

“I did not know my neighbour well. I would greet him when I saw him in the morning and afternoons,” said Mahlokweng.

The man, believed to be in his 50’s, lived alone according to his neighbours.

“It really is tragic. I wish I knew him better or knew who his family is – maybe they would have found him sooner,” said Mahlokweng.

“My heart goes out to his loved ones.”

No foul play was suspected, said police spokesperson Captain Rebecca Phatlane.

“An inquest was opened to determine the cause of death.”
