North police donate shoes and bags to needy pupils
"I am glad and grateful the Soshanguve police could come to our rescue."
Soshanguve police donated shoes, bags and stationery to less fortunate learners at two local primary schools on Friday.
The initiative, which was a first of its kind, identified 50 learners from Refihlile Pele Primary School in Block TT and Meetseng Primary School in Block L as recipients.
Police spokesperson Zanele Mtsweni said it was important to encourage poor learners to come to school with confidence, knowing they had the necessary resources.
“We want to encourage them to come to school so that they may not resort to crime,” said Mtsweni, adding that the police had also given an anti-crime talk.
Mtsweni said the plan was to donate school uniforms, stationery and bags to more schools in Soshanguve.

The initiative was sponsored by local shops and business – Mary’s Fashion, Pep Stores and Total Boss garage – in Soshanguve.
Refihlile principal Malome Tseke said the donation would help improve the attitude of the children towards schooling.
“It will improve their behaviour in class and surely they will participate more in school activities,” said Tseke.
Meetseng teacher Athalia Mampuru said: “This will motivate them to always pitch up for school.”
Cylia Mushi said, as an unemployed single parent, she could not afford a proper school bag for her daughter.
“I do not receive help from anyone and I have other kids to care for. I am glad and grateful the Soshanguve police could come to our rescue,” said Mushi.
