10 years for Sunnyside cellphone thief

A knife-wielding Sunnyside thief will spend 10 years behind bars, the police have announced.

Spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela Prince “Jacquar” Ndlovu (46) was found guilty of aggravated robbery by the Pretoria magistrate’s court last week.

He said Ndlovu attacked a 22-year-old student walking to church and stole her two cellphones in 2016.

“Ndlovu was spotted by eyewitnesses as he fled into an abandoned building occupied by vagrants.”

He said Ndlovu had been in custody since his arrest in July 2016 after being denied bail.

“Sunnyside police will heighten visibility and intensify intelligence-driven crime prevention operations towards reducing crime to its lowest levels in the area,” he said.

“The police encouraged the members of the public to continue reporting suspicious or criminal activities anonymously at Crime Stop 08600 10111 or SMS crime line 32211.”
