‘Watch out for criminals posing as vendors in the north’
Police warn criminals disguising as vendors around Soshanguve streets.
The Soshanguve police have warned criminals pretending to be vendors in the local streets.
Spokesperson Captain Stephen Maluleka said Rietgat police were worried about criminal activities at street intersections in the area.
He said there had been an increase in theft out of motor vehicles, particularly delivery trucks and bakkies entering Soshanguve in the recent past.
“Truck and bakkie drivers must be vigilant when approaching traffic lights and circles,” he said.
“They must ensure that they use strong padlocks to lock in their goods and avoid asking strangers for directions rather they must go to the local police station or filling stations.”
He urged the public to stop creating a market for criminals.

“If you buy stolen goods, you are as guilty as the thieves,” he said.
Rietgat police station Commander Colonel Dikeledi Hlatshwayo said: “We want to make sure that we rid our precinct of all criminals, be it hardened, opportunistic or wannabe…our priority is to ensure our people are and feel safe.”
She expressed her gratitude to all residents who continued to call in for crime combating tips.
Safety tips for motorists in Soshanguve:
– Don’t leave your phone or handbag where it can be easily grabbed.
– Don’t leave your valuables where they are visible to a person outside.
– Inform the police about the whereabouts of suspected criminals – and report crime.
– Beware of criminals posing as vendors selling goods at discounted prices.
– Always make sure your car doors are locked and windows closed.
– If possible, lock all valuables in your car boot and ensure nobody is watching you.
– Beware of pamphlet distributors, “ice pop” sellers and window washers at intersections.
– Truck drivers must secure all supplies in the back of the truck.
