 Cullinan man sentenced for rape and murder of a girl

He was handed down two life sentences and five years for murder, kidnapping and rape.

A 45-year-old man was sentenced at the Cullinan Magistrate’s Court on Thursday after being found guilty of murder, kidnapping and rape.

“Matome” Johannes Maphutha was handed two life sentences and a five-year sentence for the murder, kidnapping and rape of a 12-year-old girl in Refilwe around May 2017.

Tshwane east cluster commander Major General Andre Wiese applauded Constable Thabiso Ramalatsi for his efforts and professionalism during the investigation.

“He made the presentation of evidence to the court of law, which led to the conviction and harsh sentencing of the accused,” he said.

Wiese also extended his gratitude to Cullinan SAPS members and stated that their efforts on the case were noted.

He also thanked the victim’s family for their cooperation and availability at all times.
