Erasmia man gets 12 months for hitting wife
The attack was reported a day after Valentine’s Day.
The Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a man to 12 months’ imprisonment for assaulting his wife with a hammer.
Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said the attack was reported in Erasmia a day after Valentine’s day around 13:00.
He said Micheal Mashele (45) allegedly had a domestic argument with his wife Annah Shishawa (38), and in the process hit her with a hammer on her left arm. She was rushed to hospital in a serious condition.

“The suspect was arrested by Erasmia police and a case of assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm was opened.”
He said the Erasmia Social Crime Prevention Unit and the Department of Social Development arranged counselling for the victim.
Tshwane West cluster commander Major-General Tommy Mthombeni warned other would-be perpetrators that the police would not back down from fighting any form of crime, particularly the abuse of women and children.
“We have noted with concern that some men have not changed their behaviour,” he said.
“Therefore, we will continue to educate men in the communities through awareness campaigns on radio, print media and door-to-door visits on different issues.
We also urge residents to report any criminal activity within their communities to their nearest or local police station.”
