Man dies in Sunnyside shooting

The man was dropping off a friend in the area when they were approached by two armed men

A 38-year old man was shot dead in Sunnyside on Saturday night.

The incident happened near an intersection of Kotze and Greef streets at 21:00.

Police spokesperson Captain Anton Breedt said the man was dropping off a friend in the area when they were approached by two armed men.

“One man went to the passenger’s side, the other to the driver’s side and there was an altercation between the passenger and one of the suspects.”

“The passenger then later heard a gunshot.”

Breedt said the passenger managed to escape and only returned after the two men had walked away.

Best Care emergency spokesperson said the deceased was shot in his abdomen.

“We managed to revive him and take him to hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.” Loubser.

The police are investigating a case of murder.
