Bakery van ‘hijackers’ nabbed in west
A suspicious van was pulled over by the police on routine patrol and instead two men jumped out and ran.
Two men have been arrested after a hijacked delivery van was stopped by police on a routine patrol in Hercules.
Local police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango the Tshwane metro police pulled over a suspicious bakery van in Van der Hoff Road on Monday around 11:30.
“The van was travelling along Polley Street in Magalieskloof in Hercules when it was ambushed by two armed men in a white Mazda. The men pointed a gun at the driver and his crew and forced them into the back of the van,” he said.
Msimango said an undisclosed amount of cash was taken together with the driver’s cellphone.

“Later, in Van der Hoff Road, the suspects were pulled over by metro police officials who were doing routine spot checks. The two men jumped out and fled. The police heard screams for help from the back of the delivery van.”
Msimango said the victims were rescued and they reported the ordeal to the police.
“With the help of the community, the metro police chased after the suspects on foot and apprehended them.”
He said a police-issue firearm was recovered during the arrest, and the Mazda had not been found.
Two men aged 18 and 41 would appear in court soon to face a charge of hijacking and armed robbery, Msimango said.
Tshwane West police cluster commander Major-General Tommy Mthombeni applauded the metro police and the community for their effort in fighting crime.
