Central police investigating attempted murder case
"All the suspects are expected to appear before court this week."
The Pretoria Central police are investigating a case of attempted murder after two men fired shots at police in the CBD on 19 April.
Spokesperson Sergeant Tsietsi Lamola said the police patrolling around 22:30 spotted two suspicious men and as they approached the men, one of them fired at them.
“[The officers] returned fire,” he said, adding one of the men was arrested.
“The 36-year-old appeared at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 23 April facing three charges of attempted murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. He had minor injuries on his left thigh following the shooting incident.”
Lamola said the man’s accomplice was still at large.
He said 47 people were arrested for various crimes ranging from assault, theft, rape, malicious damage to property, possession of dagga and drugs over the weekend during a crime-prevention operation.
“All the suspects are expected to appear before court this week.”
