Judgment in ANC ward councillor case postponed
Tshwane ANC spokesperson Teboho Joala said the party would only comment after the case has been finalised.
Judgment in the rape trial of a Winterveldt politician was postponed in the Ga-Rankuwa magistrate’s court on Friday, police said.
Spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi said the matter was postponed because the judge, who was hearing the case in the magistrate’s court, was absent for personal reasons.
“The court was yet to set a new date,” Moremi said on Monday.
ANC councillor Emmanuel Sipho Maselane (33) is facing a string of charges, including two of rape, robbery and assaulting the complainants.

He has pleaded not guilty.
This was the second time the judge had failed to show up due to ill health.
On 7 June last year, the case was postponed because the judge failed to turn up due to ill health.
Maselane was arrested in 2015 by the Loate police for allegedly raping two women aged 30 and 37 and for sexual indecent assault of two 14-year-old girls.
He was out on R2 000 bail when his trial began in December.
“It is alleged Maselane gave his victims lifts at night then took them to a veld where he assaulted and raped them,” said Moremi.
