UPDATE: Bail denied after Atteridgeville boy’s rape and killing

He is accused of raping and murdering the seven-year-old boy.

A man accused of raping and killing a seven-year-old boy in Atteridgeville was recently denied bail.

Atteridgeville police spokesperson Captain Thomas Mufamadi said the victim, Hlayisani Baloyi, was found dead last Monday around 06:40 in Saulsville.

Mufamadi said a 42-year-old man was arrested shortly afterwards.

“It is believed that the boy went missing on Saturday, 14 April after he was last seen with the suspect. It is alleged that the deceased was raped then murdered,” he earlier said.

Last Thursday, the man was denied bail, Mufamadi said.

Mufamadi could not confirm reports that the 42-year-old had been on parole after he was sentenced to 25 years for rape.

He said Baloyi was buried last Friday.
