A police woman was admitted to hospital after her home east of Pretoria was petrol-bombed.
The woman and her husband are police officers and their Ekangala, Bronkhorstspruit home was petrol bombed in the early hours of Friday.
“The husband and wife were the only people in the house and were asleep at the time of the incident,” police spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said.

She said the couple were awakened by what was later confirmed as petrol bombs thrown through a number of windows.
“A shootout also ensued as shots were allegedly fired by suspects, and the husband returned fire, forcing the unknown suspects to flee,” she said.
“The wife, a sergeant in the police, sustained burn wounds and was immediately rushed to hospital.”

Peters said the motive behind this attack was yet to be established.
Gauteng provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Deliwe de Lange expressed concern at the continued attacks against the police, equating the malicious attacks to nothing less than deliberately undermining the authority of the state.
“Remember, harbouring a suspect is a criminal offence,” said De Lange, who appealed to members of the public who might have knowledge about the identity or the whereabouts of the suspects.
