Man dies inside police station after shooting at east fast food outlet

“Wounded in the upper body, the man sped off and managed to drive himself to the Silverton police station."

A man was killed and another injured during what was believed to be an attempted armed robbery at a fast food outlet in the east of Pretoria on Saturday.

The incident occurred around 20:45 at Chicken Licken at the Silverwater Crossing mall.

Details were sketchy on Sunday, but according to police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach it was alleged that two unknown men entered the outlet with the intention to rob it.

“It is suspected that the robbers thought it was the police arriving at the scene and fled shortly thereafter,” she said.

“Wounded in the upper body, the man sped off and managed to drive himself to the Silverton police station.

“When he entered the police station he was bleeding profusely. As he explained to officers what happened, he collapsed in the community service centre and was later declared dead on the scene,” Weilbach said.
