Police have warned motorists in the north of Pretoria about an increase in the number of cases involving thieves using remote control jammers in the area.
“We are investigating several such cases in which thieves use jammers to prevent motorists from locking their cars,” said police spokesperson Captain Xoli Mbele.
Motorists were urged to note the following safety tips:
– When parking your vehicle, ensure that your doors are locked by physically checking it.
– Use your central locking remote while standing close to your vehicle.
– When driving around the city, ensure that your windows are closed or at least only slightly opened.
– Always be alert when approaching intersections and red traffic lights; attackers often loiter in these places.
– Keep your doors locked at all times.
– Ensure that your valuables, e.g. handbags, wallet, laptops, iPads, etc. are placed in your car boot.
– Never display your valuables on the car seat.
