Male motorists warned of Pta brazen thief
Similar cases were reported in other areas of Pretoria.
The Pretoria police have warned motorists – in particular men – of a brazen woman thief operating in the area with an accomplice.
Spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said recently a 69-year-old man waiting in his parked car near a shopping centre in the east of Pretoria was accosted by a woman.
“The unknown woman opened his passenger door and got into the vehicle,” said Weilbach.
She said the woman had asked for cash which the surprised man had refused and ordered her out of his vehicle.
“He threatened her with the police, but still she refused to get out of the vehicle.
He drove her down the road where there was a group of people.
He asked them to help him to get the woman out of his vehicle.”
Weilbach said the woman had then screamed the man had sexually assaulted her.
“After the woman left, he realised she had stolen a jacket from the back seat.”
The woman was described as being very short with straight black hair.
“A man in a blue overall jacket who had been hanging around disappeared with the woman,” said Weilbach.
It was suspected the two worked together.
Weilbach said the Brooklyn police were investigating and advised “motorists to keep doors locked at all times while driving or parked”.
“Windows must be shut or rolled up sufficiently to prevent somebody from putting an arm inside the vehicle.”
Weilbach said the public should always park in well-lit areas and be aware of their surroundings at all times.
“Be constantly on the lookout for suspicious characters or vehicles and do not hesitate to report them to the police immediately,” she said.
“Information with regards to crime can be given to the police anonymously.”
She said similar cases had been reported in other areas of Pretoria.
